Si fa spesso riferimento, nei filatteri, al pesce-abdju che vive nelle acque della notte e il cui potere apotropaico è molto forte. Questo pesce mitologico è stato identificato con il Lates niloticus o carpa del Nilo. Precedendo la barca di Ra, esso compare, con il pesce-inet, nel capitolo 15 del Libro dei Morti, durante le dodici ore notturne poiché è tenuto ad accompagnare e proteggere la barca solare avvertendola dell’arrivo del serpente Apopi.
