Nel corpo sanitario dell'esercito entrano (almeno ai miei tempi, io sono capitano medico di cpl in congedo) medici che non seguono la carriera militare (si laureano nelle normali università) e per 12 mesi svolgono servizio come medici (solitamente sottotenente medico di complemento) appunto COMPLEMENTARI ai medici di carriera del corpo sanitario.
Questo prima che il servizio militare venisse riformato.
