Mansarde bezeichnet ein Zimmer oder eine Wohnung im ausgebauten Dachgeschoss, gelegentlich auch die gesamte Dachgeschoss-Etage. Im 18. Jahrhundert verstand man darunter in Frankreich eine bestimmte Dachform, das so genannte „gebrochene Dach“: Das Mansarddach erleichterte den Einbau bewohnbarer Räume im Dachbereich.
