Existe una diferencia entre "agroturismo" y "turismo rural":
Agroturismo es el conjunto de actividades organizadas específicamente por agricultores en complemento de su actividad principal, a las cuales se invita a participar a los turistas y que constituyen servicios por los cuales se cobra .

Turismo Rural es el conjunto de actividades turísticas que se realizan en los medios rurales y que se basan en las ventajas que presenta el entorno natural y humano específico de esas zonas. Pertenecen a esta categoría el ecoturismo, el turismo de aventura, el etnoturismo y el agroturismo.
