unassigned seating / hoteling

Explanation:
Unsure of your context. Just a guess. This is how it is used in our company. It refers to the sharing of desks with no fixed seating assignment. Our employees spend a lot of time out of the office and it would be inefficient to give them a dedicated desk. When they come to the office, they can check with the receptionist and are assigned an available "open desk." Also sometimes called 'hoteling'
