Explanation: The author intends to mean a "second generation" which could be what he/she intends to be more that a second version, etc. because of that person's perception that a "second version" or a "second revision" is totally incompatible with the actual fact, which is, probably a totally new and renewed form of the original one.
The thinking behind using 2生 is possibly from the word ”2世” as, perhaps, in George Bush, "Jr", the Genius.
