Explanation:
Presumably the text is discussing how to provide an estimate of the quantity required, which could refer to time (ie the number of hours) or physical items (the number of boxes, number of screws for example).
As it is only an estimate, there will be a range of uncertainty, for example 10-12 hours or 50-60 boxes.
多め means roughly 'somewhat more', so in this case the estimate would be on the high side of the range of uncertainty, or even slightly above, for example 14 hours or 65 boxes, to be certain that the final actual quantity will not exceed the estimate.
