Japanese to English translations [PRO]
Business/Commerce (general) / Business
Japanese term or phrase: 深堀
I know this word can be a name: Fukabori. But used in a business context like, 「IaaS実態を把握。要深堀。」, I'm wondering how to put it in English.

English translation:Closer analysis / deeper review (is needed)
Explanation:
It means to 'dig deep' / for more information.

PS - it could be Fukahori, not fukabori.

agree  Krzysztof Łesyk: Yes, but sometimes (at least in the company I work for) it is also used to mean "to (methodically) search for solutions", which, now that I think about it, is almost the same thing ;)

delve into
ほりさげる[掘り下げる]
delveは「探究する」「ほじくる」の意。例えばdelve into the problemと言えば「問題を掘り下げる」とか「問題を掘り下げて考える」になる。ほかにget to the root of the problem(rootは「根」「核心」の意)でも似た意味になるが、多少ニュアンスの違いがある。前者はdelve into the problem to find the meaningつまり「(深く意味を理解するために)掘り下げる」のに対し、後者はget to the root of the problem to find the causeつまり「(原因を究明するために)掘り下げる」といった感じ。
○平和ということの意味を掘り下げて考える人はほとんどいない。There are very few people who delve into the meaning of peace.

follow up on
ほりさげる[掘り下げる]
「〜を徹底的に追究する」という意味だが、「提案・発言・発見などについてもう少し知ろうとしたり、掘り下げようとしたりする」というニュアンスを含んでいる。目的語にくるものを「どこまでも追いかける」ことから、最初の例文のように「〜に従う」と訳す場合もある。
○ローラさん、あなたは22歳の時に直観、あるいは本能的なものを感じ取っていながら、それに従わなかったのでしょうか?Laura, did you have intuition or instinct back at age 22 that you did not follow up on?
○彼らの提案に興味を持ったが、それを掘り下げて研究することはしなかった。I was interested in their proposal, but I didn't follow up on it.
