I think you should have provided more context as 直訳 is not gonna help here.
By the way, I have encountered this expression earlier in the following context.
"...例えば、Cでは型の範囲を指定できない、有効範囲の制限が弱い..."
Here 型 is talking about Cのデータ型, and 有効範囲 is actually referring to 有効範囲 of データ型.
In C, you can not specify the range of data types. Also, the scope (有効範囲) of data types is not fully restricted. |

| Grading comment I ended up going with this for the translation. The original context was really just a list of shortcomings and gave no hint to what exactly it was referring to, so this is a tough call, but I think this is probably close.
