Japanese to English translations [PRO] Cosmetics, Beauty / makeup | | Japanese term or phrase: 美容剤 | | At the bottom of cosmetics descriptions. The term "個別美容剤" is followed by a list of ingredients (chamomile extract, grape seed oil, safflower oil, etc.), each accompanied by their effects (astringent, emollient). A Google search leads me to believe that 美容剤 refers to ingredients that enhance or protect one's natural beauty, as opposed to just "makeup" to accent (or downplay) one's features. But what is the English term? Thanks in advance! |

| | Active Ingredients | Explanation: I initially thought of 'beautifying agents' but you never see this on the bottle - too chokuyaku.
'Active ingredients' (followed by the list of ingredients as you describe) is the most common way to describe this.
Can's contribution above - to me - describes more the finished product, eg. 'cleansers' and 'astringents' along with lipsticks and other makeup are called "beauty products". |
