Here's the relevant part on w axis, but you'll probably have to read the whole article:
"Figure 1 illustrates a horizontal spindle version of a 5-axis machine where an A-axis rotary table is mounted on top of a B-axis rotary table. The 5 axes are identified as X,Y,Z,A and B, where A and B move the part in the rotational axes and X,Y and Z move the cutter in the linear axes. the plural of "axis" is "axes", so it should be "linear scale feedback on all axes", as it is here and on several other sites (google it):
