Japanese to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Engineering (general)
Japanese term or phrase: 制御装置に指令するという考え方
The sentence:

ロボットの移動では、目標物までの距離や途中の障害物の位置を計測して、最短のエネルギーで移動するためのコースを一定のアルゴリズムで計算し、制御装置に指令するという考え方です。

Is this saying that the "robot calculates ... using algorithms", "the user programs the robot to calculate..." or that "the user calculates ... and programs the robot"? I'm getting thrown off by 考え方 at the end. I can provide the surrounding sentences if necessary.

English translation:The idea is to ...
Explanation:
I think it means 'The idea is to send commands to the control device ...'

Yes, commands are being sent to the robot by the user (presumably) and the calculating is being done before being sent to the control device. Whether the user is doing that manually or using a computer program is not clear.

Okay, I've got it now. It must be talking about the programmer, not the end-user. I mean, how could a regular user calculate this stuff? I'd get bored just trying to figure it out. Why don't Japanese sentences have subjects? :p
