Torn between two answers . . . 03:11 Jun 11, 2010
I like the first half of Joyce's answer and part of the second half of Miho's. Saying that you have chosen someone to be foreign minister because they are "knowledgeable about foreign relations" is hardly a ringing endorsement. "Well-versed in"--not "on," though perhaps this is a US-UK difference?--sounds stronger, even though in essence it means the same thing as "knowledgeable." As for the second part, I would be more inclined to say *has* a broad perspective rather than "takes" or "maintains." Result: "She is well-versed in foreign relations and has a broad perspective." Six of one, half a dozen of the other, but not quite differentiated enough to merit its own posting as an answer. |
