Japanese to English translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - Human Resources
Japanese term or phrase:企画業務型裁量労働制
Hello,
It's a term used within a text about working time arrangements and categorized under "勤務形態". As it seems there are four systems:
1. 専門業務型裁量労働制
2. 企画業務型裁量労働制
3. フレックスタイム制
4. 通常勤務制
I understand 3 and 4, but I am not sure about the right translation for the first two. I would greatly appreciate any help.
Explanation: 1. specialist class discretionary labor system
2. project team class discretionary labor system
My instincts tell me that the Japanese itself is a little stretched on the first two, but I think these are appropriate terms. 専門業務 and 企画業務 could be interpreted differently depending on the context of the work obviously, but you would need to give us more information on exactly what you are translating. They could also be bracketed if you like:
1. discretionary labor system (specialist class)
2. discretionary labor system (project team class)

specialty services model
project operations model

Just to expand on that, there are many more possible terms: planning division, might be more appropriate for example. Without knowing more about the company and their business practices it is difficult to answer.
I understand your dilemma, but the issue of whether you choose to use project team rather than planning team would depend on the source text and original context. There is considerable variation how departments are described within their own companies, and so I would hesitate to say that it absolutely should be project team, and would rather present it as an example of how the term *could* be used. Sorry I cannot be more concrete! I agree it sounds a little off but that was precisely why I suggested putting it in brackets, which might on reflection be the more natural of the two. Hope this helps.
Thank you both very mich for your answers. I absolutely agree that 裁量労働制 means discretionary labour system. But I am not sure about the term before (企画業務型).
Jonathan, I like your your suggestions. Something like that would have been my guess, but I have never heard such a word in the English language. Does it exist, at all? Also, why did you put "project team" instead of "planning" or "planning business".
