Japanese term or phrase: Present participle clause
It is said that in a sentence with present participle clause, the two actions in the sentence must refer to the same subject.
Does this rule have to be observed in Japanese->English translation.

Does the following translation violate the above mentioned rule?
(原文)ヘッダータイプは、○○場合の考慮として、定義する。
(訳文)The header type is defined taking into account the case where…

Explanation:
I wouldn't get tied up in ensuring the sentences are grammatically identical. This is probably not desirable in many cases. We are all familiar with the volumes of Japanese source sentences with too many subjects or nouns...

This case is obviously different, but when we take the meaning of the sentence without overly concerning ourselves with grammar, we can see that the meaning is:

If you are unclear about whether a certain rule should be followed, you might be parsing the sentence incorrectly.
In this case, 定義する means "be sure to define".
、○○場合の考慮として means "...be sure to define... in order to take into account cases of XX."
ヘッダータイプは is actually ヘッダータイプを but used は is used here to denote it is the subject. I'm not sure this is possible in English, so in English we'd rewrite with "header type" as the object.

Therefore:

(原文)ヘッダータイプは、○○場合の考慮として、定義する。
(訳文(draft)) Define the header type such that cases of XX are taken into account.

訳文Final: Be sure to take into consideration cases of XX when defining header types.

Hope this helps.
