Japanese to English translations [PRO] Law/Patents - Law (general) / Internal control | | Japanese term or phrase: 規程、規程類 | I am checking Japanese-English translation of internal rules for a Japanese company. I have come across the word 規程 and 規程類 a lot, and am quite at loss how to translate this term. The translator uses the term "rule" for 規程 and "rules" for 規程類. I am not sure if this is ok, because there are other Japanese words such as 規則、規定 which are translated as "rule" or "rules".
There is also a problem of translating the phrase 規程類総合管理規程 which is at the moment translated as "Rule for the Overall Administration of the Rules" which is a bit strange...
I hope somebody could help me. |

| | English translation:(internal) rules | Explanation: This is tough, given all the overlap.
Given that it is seems clear we are talking about internal rules, I agree that you can just refer to them as rules for most of the document.
If other "synonyms" such as 規定 also come up in the document, it might be better to translate them so as to make the distinction clear from the internal 規程.
As for the 規程総合管理規程... a literal translation would require what you have suggested. Depending on the context, if you wanted to make it read better in English, you could call it the "Overall administration of rules" as a heading (I don't think the extra "rule for" would be required to convey the meaning), and then the "overall administrative rule" if you needed to refer back to it.
Out of context, "Rule for the overall administration of the rules" is fine, I think. Doesn't read too nice - but that's the law for you. |
