私、ネイティブの日本人なんですが、ちょっと確認させてください。

「医者の前に(である前に)１人の人間である」という表現を文章で読むなり
耳にするなりした場合、私が受け取るのは、
「医者という立場にいるけれど、その前に私だって普通の一人の
人間なんですよ」という感じのニュアンスです。
例えば、「医者だから、患者の死に直面した時、いちいち落ち込んで
いたんじゃ仕事にはならない、けどね、私だって一人の人間なんですよ。
普通の人間としての感情があるんだから・・・そりゃ落ち込みますよ」
というような状況で使う表現だと思うんですが、正しいですか？

まあ、文脈によって、多少意味合いは違ってくると思いますが。

例文をネットでひらってみました。

私はサラリーマンである以前に1人の人間である。
愛する人もいるし、愛してくれる人もいる。私は自分を大切にする義務がある。
そんなことを考えていると、この社会ではうまく生きていけない。

私は、監督である前に1人の人間であるよう努めている選手のプレ―の出来しだいで、
怒鳴る事もあるが常に選手を1人の人間として接しているつもりすなわち、
尊敬の念を持って選手と接しているつもりだ。

プロのアスリートだって、1人の人間である。プライベートの時間に何をしようが自由だ。

専門家であると同時に，1人の人間である。そこ. には，大なり小なり「評価の歪み」
が生じる可能. 性がある。

先生である前にひとりの人間であること。ひとりの人間としてこどもたちに接し、ひとりの人間としてこどもたちの憧れや尊敬を得る。もし、それができない場合は、ひとりの人間同士として友達になり、心を通じ合わせる。それがすべての教育の前提だと思う .

○○である前にひとりの人間である。

という表現をした場合、
1) 職業や立場のことはあるけれど、一人の人間としての人間臭さを強調する意味と
2) 職業や立場を云々言う前に、一人の人間としての人間性が大切であるという意味
の2通りにとれ、それは前後の文脈がないとわかりません。

1)は、その人に少し優しい意味合いになるし
　(普通の人間なんだからそれでいいんだよ、とか、人間臭くていいわー）

2)は、その人に厳しい意味合いになります
　(職業云々の前に、ひとりの人間としてしっかりしなさい)

私なんかは、他人にも自分にも甘い人間なので、
１）の意味でとってしまうんですが
この質問では、どちらの意味なんだろう？
と知りたくなっちゃたんですけど・・・（＾O＾)

Asker: 沢山の例文ありがとうございます。I'm sorry I couldn't provide the context because this was the intro of a document. The entire sentence was very long, but this phrase did not have much to do with the rest of the sentence...I am just guessing, but maybe the author is trying to promote doctors to think that they are one human being, not just a doctor. I learnt a lot from your explanations. Thank you Leochan!
