Japanese to English translations [PRO] Medical - Medical: Instruments
Japanese term or phrase:医療用嘴管
医療用嘴管及び体液誘導管 : number 51 in the PMDA list of medical device categories.
Anyone have the correct term? My best guess would be cannula but not really sure. The specific product is a catheter system
I see the word “beak” in reference to catheters. It’s the part/tip that enters the body. There are websites that show a variety of catheter tips (beak-shaped, rounded, curved, basket-shaped tips [called basket catheters], etc., etc.)
In conclusion, after looking through all these websites, I’d say "cannulae" as you surmised and add "catheter" (see Japanese website below) to be "cannulae/catheters of assorted tip configurations."
If confined to “bird-beak tip” cannulae (which exists), I think it would be limiting as a category. And, the Japanese definition describes it as the “tip” (sometimes it says “distil tip” of the catheter. There are so many types of cannulae/catheter tips configured. Please see the assortment in the “maquet” website below….
The catheter has a beak-shaped distal tip and a shaft with spring support. Based on in vitro tests, these design features showed improved ability to pass through a simulated coronary artery model with a bend and to aspirate gel.
The below website has really great photos of a variety of cannulae and catheter tips. One model has a unique “bird-beak tip” for easier and safer insertion into the aorta.
