What exactly is the difficulty? I'm not sure there is a 'best wording' for this sentence, but as long as you understand the grammar and terminology here (and I would hope you do!), you should be able to come up with some good wordings. If you're unsure about the tense (were/will be/should be calculated etc.) look at the text function: is it a study plan/protocol (will be...) or a study report (were...).
