I wrote "D3" but the writer may have meant "D" without specifying which octave. Only way to know is to look at the musical score or ask.

OK, make that a stab at *most* of the sentence! Not sure how to phrase the 上に向かって響いて行く part. My guess is it means they play musical runs that start low and end high, but I'm not sure, and wordings like "play up"/ "resound upward" don't capture that. Also not sure if 響いて here has the sense of echo/resonate or simply means to play. Anyone out there who can elaborate?
