If you do this with this particular name, you get 26 hits for "まつもとさとし," 5 for "まつもとさとる," 9 for "まつもとあきら"and 116 for "まつもとてつ" (*however, in this case, you will see that almost all of the hits are when "てつ" is used as only part of the name eg "てつろう," so the actual number is much lower.
According to the reference link below, there are 116 instances of a person in Japan being named "松本哲." Based on the results of this search method, I would say that "さとし" is statistically the most likely reading. However, of course, you can never know for sure unless the client is able to provide the answer. |

I did all the searches you mentioned, too, so I knew the statistically most likely reading, but I was looking for some extra info from natives, based on customs and changing cultural influences. Cinefil gave such info in his reference, I wish I could give some points for that... I discussed this with the client and as there is no way to find out the exact name, and it is not important anyway, we just used the last name "Matsumoto".
