While all the suggestions about are just as good at conveying the meaning of "uzumaki," I thought that vortex sounded the coolest. The Japanese characters are okay too. If you have not seen them, please click on the link below.

agree  shyboy75: uzumaki sometimes also refers to a single curl in someone's hair (at the back of the head). This isn't referring to someone with curly hair, but rather someone with straight hair.

"Uzumaki" is the Japanese term for whirlpool.

note: "Uzushio" is the term used for whirlpools in sea-water. (The Japanese word for the air variety of the whirlpool, or "tornado," is "tatsumaki.")

A literal translation of "uzumaki" in English would be something like "swirl-roll." "Uzu" translates to "swirl" in English. "Maki" in this case is the same ~maki that is in "avoacado-maki," or in English, "avocado-roll."
