treated/handled afterwards
Explanation:
I've heard 「後付で」 used instead of 「後で付けた」 a couple of times, especially in regard to computer parts (as in 「後付でメモリを増やす」) - that would mean that something is dealt with/handled/treated after... what exactly? Hard to say without context. After the product has been completed/shipped/assembled/finished/delivered? The possibilities are endless.

There's also another possibility, but it's very remote one. EX-word XD-GW9600 electronic dictionary search yields "subsidiary" as a possible translation of 後付 (as one of the least probable results, but still). It's pushing it, but could that be it? Processed/treated by a subsidiary?

Oh, you've found the answer already? Ah well, at least tell me if I was right :)
