Japanese to English translations [PRO] Art/Literary - Poetry & Literature / Haiku | | Japanese term or phrase: 行く春や濡れ場などとは縁のなく | | Hi, stuck on another poem... Thanks for your help |
| | | English translation:The prime of my life is ending and my life had nothing to do with juicy love affairs | Explanation: I have no knowledge on the rules for tranlating a haiku into English, but I think you can translate this one along this line.
春 has a double meaning here, one is obviously a season as a 季語 (seasonary expression) and the other one is the prime of one's life, which has a sexual connotation in this case. The author looks back at his/her life and laughs at him/herself in a sarcastic way, realizing that his/her life had nothing to do with juicy love affairs.

I have studied literature in a university, and I know that Haiku's include one Kigo=seasonal word, per one song. And here, the Kigo is 行く春。
Basho Matuo has read a lot of Haiku with the same Kigo 行く春, and often this Kigo creates the lonely and sentimental atmosphere as the flowery spring time is passing away.
