I think you've got to translate this sentence as a whole, and it would go something like (combining your sentence with the one on the blog page):

I guess they're the only ones who really know! The reason I suspect that the author of your text did the copying is that as we were saying below, 「吸い込まれる」is a bit weird in this context without the 「ライトスタンドへ」part, so it feels like someone copied the text and made (weird) revisions to it. However, I suppose it's equally possible that the blog author obtained the text from some third party and added the 「ライトスタンドへ」part for clarity. In any case, given that both your text and the blog text are referring to the same game, the 「ライトスタンドへ」part is probably right. Or you can imagine it as 「スタンドへ」just to be safe.

The author of my source is the baseball team itself, so I don't think they would use a text from a personal blog. To me, it rather seems that the author of the blog quoted some (if not all) of the lines from a newspaper article or something.
Are you sure that the author of your source didn't copy the text of the blog post that I found (or vice versa)? It seems like a case of (bungled) plagiarism to me, as the similarities between the two are too great to be random. The text of your other KudoZ question is also reproduced verbatim in that blog post.

Explanation: I just don't think that 吸い込まれる can be translated without sounding awkward to an American baseball fan. At least I can't think of anything that would translate.

I agree with your tranlsation. Just saying, she should have posted the full sentence then, because
ライトスタンドへ吸い込まれる makes sense
ライナーで吸い込まれる doesn't make sense
