Korean to English translations [PRO]
Law/Patents - Law (general)
Korean term or phrase: 갑제1호증
A summary of a court order uses 갑제1호증 in parentheses after citing the registration information of the defendant's patent. Converting to hanja (I'm a Chinese student at heart) I'm getting 甲第1號證, but I'm not quite sure what that means. I'm guessing something like "Certificate 1. of Party A," but that doesn't mean much to me. Any pointers?

English translation:Plaintiff's Exhibit 1
Explanation:
In Korean legal documents, "y제x호증" generally denotes exhibit no. X submitted by party Y. In a court opinion Y is generally either 갑 ("A", referring to the plaintiff) or 을 ("B", referring to the defendant). (There are of course occasional exceptions.)

"Exhibit A-1" would be a more cautious but perfectly adequate translation.

Certificate 1. of Part A

Explanation:
"Supporting document No. 1 of *(first party)" is the right translation.

*(whoever is specified as the first party in the contract, you can replace Part A with the actual name of the party specified in the contract).

agree  Korean123: "갑제 1호증" is a legal term that means Exhibit #1. No one uses "Certificate" in the court.
