Latin term or phrase: vicarius praepositi
Hi,

I'm translating a PhD diploma from the University of Pennsylvania which is signed by the Secretary, as well as the President, **Vicarius Praepositi** and Dean (in that order). Any idea what title this would refer to? I'm thinking maybe a "vice provost", since the root of "provost" is from the Latin praepositus.

Can anyone confirm that or give another option? Thanks.

If it helps, the person who signed for this title in May 2004 was Peter C (or Peter L... hard to read signature).

vice provost
Explanation:
I agree, it's the vice provost
At UPenn they seem to call it deputy provost as well
In 2004 it was Peter Conn

The French-Latin dictionary has it as "sous principal" (vice principal), the Spanish-Latin dictionary as vicepreposito (vice president, vice provost)

Excellent, yes the signature was for Peter Conn, so deputy provost it is. Thanks for the research to confirm this.
