-> I thought instauro had more to do with renewal. In this instance I just put forward the customary rendering of the clan's motto

Péter Jutai: I concur with Veronika, ruinae is genitivus singularis---I think it is either not so good Latin or it was more important to have an expression that sounded good (restaurator ruinarum would be the best, but it sounds worse than instaurator ruinae).

-> Yes ruina, ruinae is singular but it conveys a figurative concept here - what has fallen down/become ruined. In English we say 'my life is in ruins' not 'in ruin'. For this reason I think ruins is OK in English
