Explanation: Vas is guarantor, surety
Curiosly enouch, my latin dictionary derives "praes" from a hypothetical "praeves", from "prae" and "vas"

According to my dictionary, praes is one who takes responsibility for other before the State, and vas seems more specific, it is one who guarantees that other will appear before the Court.

Sorry, I wrote "guarantoor" instead of "guarantor"
