Latin term or phrase: Novena
Greetings,

Please, how should I best translate the term “novena” into English?

http://www.stjudenovena.org/

Is it fem. sing. or neuter pl.? What understood noun goes with it, please? Dies? Prex?

All the best, and many thanks,

Simon

a (nine day) period of prayer

Explanation:
It's not strictly Latin, the word may derive from the Medieval Latin for ninth; it originally meant a nine day period of prayer, but I think that it can also just mean "praver" nowadays.

agree  Joseph J. Brazauskas: 'Novena' is neut. pl. and derives from classical Latin 'noveni, -ae, -a' ('nine at a time'). It denotes a group of nine but Lat. 'dies' ('days') is masculine, save rarely in the abl. sing. (esp. in the phrase 'constituta die', 'on the appointed day').
