"To name as a suspect" nav paziņot par to presei kā kāds PR gājiens, kā kolēģis domā, bet gan oficiāla policijas rīcība, kas apstiprina šāda statusa piešķiršanu konkrētai personai. Savukārt TTC veiktie LR likumu tulkojumi jau nu gan jāskata ir ļoti kritiski, lielākoties ir tiešām samērā burtiski tulkots no LV, nevis meklēts ekvivalents EN valodā.

Identify as a suspect

Explanation:
Kristine, I am not positive on this but think that "atziit" may mean "identify" in this case. Colleagues? :)

declare N.N. as being under suspicion (i.e. as a suspect)

Explanation:
Check out the Criminal Process Law of Latvia - from section 263 (Chapter 15) onwards, but especially s.268(1). It is a formal warning to a person, who has already been arrested, that he is a suspect under investigation. Thus, simply "name as a suspect" is far too weak a translation, so too is "identify as a suspect". The CONTEXT is all important, i.e. that it is a notification/naming no to the world at lrhge, but to the already arrested suspect him/herself!

Vai esi droša, ka nav notikusi arestēšāna/aizturēšana? Skat. Kriminalprocesa likuma 62. pantā:
"(3) Persona zaudē aizturētā statusu, ja:

...

2) tā tiek atzīta par aizdomās turēto vai apsūdzēto; ... "

Example sentence(s):
  • The TTC translates it as "the recognition of the arrested person as a suspect or an accused ".
  • The 2 URLs below show the original Latvian text and then the TTC translation into English.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Cilvēks nav arestēts, notiek kriminālprocess, kurā šis cilvēks ir atzīts par aizdomās turēto. Notiek šī cilvēka meklēšana utt.

Asker: Jā, esmu pilnīgi pārliecināta, ka persona NAV aizturēta, atrodas citā valstī un tiek meklēta.
