Malay term or phrase: sunah

"...perkahwinan adalah sunah dan kehendak manusia..." what does this Islamic term sunah means? Britannica online dictionary explains it as follow:"Body of traditional social and legal custom and practice that constitutes proper observance of Islam."
Should I translate it as "legal custom" or "legal practice"?
And in another sentence it was used as "merupakan sunah Allah". Does is has the same meaning as in the first sentence?

English translation:sunnah

Explanation:
"Sunnah" literally means “trodden path”, and therefore the sunnah of the prophet means “the way of the prophet”. Terminologically, the word ‘Sunnah’ in Sunni Islam means those religious actions that were instituted by the Islamic prophet Muhammad...(cited from wikipedia)

I don't think "legal custom" or "legal practice" will convey the intended meaning.
