Mongolian to English translations [PRO]

I'm working on paragraph 192 of the Criminal Code of Mongolia (I'm translating into Swedish but I'm using English as a reference.) The mongolian text has ... зургаан сар хүртэл хугацаагаар баривчлах, эсхүл хоёр жил хүртэл хугацаагаар хорих ял шийтгэнэ.
I already know the meanings of the two words, and they are easy enough to find in a dictionary. But I wonder if I'm missing something. How is 3-6 months of баривчлах ял equivalent to 2 years of хорих ял? Does баривчлаx have a meaning I'm not aware of or am I reading the text wrong? The English has incarceration and imprisonment, but as far as I understand the two are basically the same. At least in Swedish. Туслаач! |
