Hi,

I gather this means "Christmas", but what do the individual words mean, please?

Candle month celebrity
Explanation:
зул - canlde (Asian hand made candle)
сар(ын) - month('s)
баяр - celebrity, celebration, holiday
As a whole the phrase indeed means "Christmas".
I don't know who and when translated "Christmas" into Mongolian this way. Perhaps the translator assumed this is the month when people burn candles in respect to the memory of J. Christ. I think this is a beautiful translation anyway. Traditionally Mongolia isn't a Christian country.
PS: The 25th day of the first winter month (approximately December) in the Eastern Calendar is also called "зулын 25" (the candle date), the day of memory of Tsonkapa.
