| | accounts balancing | Explanation: Opprydding seems to suggest there was a mess there in the 1st place. Normally, reconciliation would be a nice, odourless term for this term, but reconciliation seems to fit better with the next one, avstemming. So maybe something like accounts balancing, reconciliation and year-end procedures?

In the matter of singular or plural, methinks there is oftentimes more than just the single account involved.

Still on the plural hobbyhorse, one difference is that you CAN pick a single stamp, or a single berry...:-) |

Asker: I think you're right, Per, though "account balancing" (singular form) seems to be the more accepted form.
Asker: I don't mean to make a meal out of this point about singular/plural, but your argument doesn't hold in English - what about "berry picking", or "stamp collecting"... ;-)
Asker: ooohhh.. what are you doing up so bright and early this morning anyway? Agree you have a point there. But as you will see if you compare them in similar searches, there is not much difference between them. I think it's a case of the eye that sees. Truce?
