This 'vital accounting device'(?) exists only in Sweden, ref the Swedish AB-lagen chapter 25-13 ff. The closest thing to 'a clear cut match' in English is the rather cumbersome translation by Bolagsverket as referred in my answer below: 'a balance sheet for liquidation purposes'. Feel free to propose this as an answer if you find it appropriate for the purpose of the asker.

As I have mentioned, the author of the text has probably been inspired from the Swedish law. Even though the term does not exist in a Norwegian legal setting, it can be a good recommendation to the BOD of a company in financial trouble do a similar 'exercise', which is what the autor actually does. He/she needed a name for this in Norwegian, and adopted 'kontrollbalanse' from the Swedish. Creation of new words happens all the time, and this is a good example.

Now, the crux of the matter is to establish whether or not a similar construction exists and is in actual use in English. To my knowledge, it does not.

Is it possible that your Norwegian text is itself a translation from another language? As much as I like "trial balance", it is a bit worrysome that such a vital accounting device does not have such a clear-cut match in English.
