Norwegian term or phrase:hovedfagseksamen vs. fageksamen
What is the difference here:
"Hovedfag" was the equivalent of a Master before the current Bachelor and Master system.
Grunnfag after two semesters, mellomfag after another semester (or could be taken directly after three semesters), hovedfag (three more semesters) after Cand. mag. degree. Cand. mag equals a bachelor (mellomfageksam in one subject plus grunnfageksam in two more subjects). In the context, a 'fageksam' (subject exam) would probably be an exam in a course that has been taken without earning a degree, or in addition to the courses required for the degree.
