My dictionary gives this as 'bank of snow'!

Her er det tydeligvis snakk om at adapterringen skal utstyres med en kant som skal beskytte den mot skader fra brøyting.

Alternativt kan man kanskje bruke 'snow cleaning protection [flange|collar]' eller lignende?

Paul Waters' answer/comment led me to rethink a little. It seems to me that 'snow cleaning' is mostly used in the US, whereas in the UK the more widely covering term 'winter service' is more appropriate. However, this is a minor issue in relation to the basic question here, and I am sure Quincey is more able than me to choose the best phrasing for the purpose of this translation.

I suppose this refers to outdoor lights that might be affected by piles of snow that accumulate along a wall where the lights are place.

I suspect a typo here. Brytningskant (brytning = refraction) is maybe what is meant here?

disagree  Thomas Deschington: So the lysarmaturer come with a 12" bottom part including adapter unit and *bank of snow*, to protect the lysarmatur from the impact of snow removal?

disagree  Leif Henriksen: No typo. By using this term, the author risks some ambuigity, but it is definitely a flange/collar mounted on the adapter ring, to protect against damage from the rather rough snow cleaning process.

Perhaps a fully-flush adapter ring would cover adapterringen med brøytekant.

Explanation:
"snow cleaning" doesn't sound very "native" to my ears, although it catches what seems to be the intetntion. A snow plough is what you move snow with....

neutral  Leif Henriksen: In spite of my respect for your background, Paul, I beg to differ. As you say it yourself, a snow plough/plow is a tool. One among many possible tools to be used for snow cleaning (which by the way has 365000 hits on Google. Some people find it usable)

agree  Thomas Deschington: Det er upresis språkbruk, men konteksten viser at det umulig kan være brøytekant i vanlig forstand. Et bedre uttrykk hadde nok vært "brøytevern" eller "beskyttelsesenhet" eller noe. Setningen som følger, viser jo hva den skal brukes til.
