...that is Norwegian public administration does not translate easily. Ask 100 Norwegians what fylkeskommune means, and 98 won't be able to answer. The remaining 2% who know, probably work there, in some administrative capacity doing Lord knows what. Fylke isn't exactly the same as county, kommune is municipality, and fylkeskommunal should probably be translated into local government something, where something could be business, venture, investment, or whatever else fits. There is a strong movement calling for the eradication of fylkeskommune as a public administration tier, and I'm all for it. |
