Norwegian term or phrase: hospitering
"Etterutdanningstiltakene som inngikk i denne studien var interne og eksterne kurs, bruk av internett, hospitering og veiledning."

This is a fairly new phenomenon in the health sector, although is better known in teacher training. It involves staff exchanging jobs from one sector of the health service to another (e.g. from hospital to/from local municipal care services). where employees do the job of those they have exchanged places with, and subsequently extend their competence for their own job.

Is "job exchange training" used anywhere in the English speaking world amongst health personnel trainers?

Thanks for this, Eodd. My client was very pleased with the two references, since she is writing an academic presentation for an international audience. We simply added the word "training" as in the glossary I have entered.

Asker: Thanks, EODD! This is along the lines we have been thinking. I find the New Zealand reference particularly helpful. Good work!

supervised practice

Explanation:
In the health field, supervised practice is often included in education and continuing education programs. It does not involve a job exhange. Rather it is set up as period when the person works (with no pay) under the direct supervision of a trained person in that field.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks Donna, but we really wanted to avoid any association with regular supervised practice in the ward (or as teaching practice, in another field).
