'Gaffelplakater' is a heading in a 'text' about the decoration of a shop, setting up mannequins, signing, arranging the display etc. It is all in very short note form.
If it makes any difference, the shops are a clothing chain.

Asker: Thanks for the suggestion, but these signs were used inside the shop, and attached to the display units, not free-standing.
I think they were simply signs in frames - some of the counter-top frames have a shape a little like a two-pronged fork when empty. The sign is pushed down between the prongs, and the 'handle' raises the sign above the counter and merchandise.
Other signs/posters were simply in frames later in the text, so I used 'signage', 'signs' and 'frames' as appropriate. I could not get hold of the client, so I am still not 100% sure about 'gaffelplakater'.
Thanks anyway!
