Persian (Farsi) term or phrase: پادزهر pa:dzehr
Hi,

Does this mean “cure for poison” or something? I found it in an old dictionary but the meaning isn't clear.

Does the پاد pa:d part have a meaning please? Anything to do with پادشاه pa:desha:h?

Best wishes

Dear Simon;
The Farsi prefix "pad" has a meaning that is "anti". like in padzahr, or padtan... but as far as I know it has nothing to do with pad in "پادشاه ".

agree  Atena Hensch: yes, this word is a combined noun. Pad Zahr. here Pad means "against" and "anti" but in "padeshah" pad means "protector". "Zahr" means poison. Please refer to Persian Moeen Lexicon and here http://fa.wikipedia.org/wiki/پادزه%
