Pewne nieporozumienie bierze sie stad, ze \"redemption\", ktore doslownie znaczy \"skup wlasnych udzialow/akcji przez spolke\", w Polsce musi prowadzic do ich \"umorzenia\", w zwiazku z czym slowa te w praktyce utozsamily sie. Redemption nie jest jednak jedynym sposobem umarzania. Dla scislosci uzupelniam wpis do Glosariusza.

Umorzenie akcji polega na tym, że własne akcje nabyte przez spółkę są unicestwiane - przestają istnieć. "Redemption" ściśle rzecz biorąc oznacza tylko pierwszy element. Dlatego dla wyrażenia pełnego znaczenia konieczne jest dodanie "and cancellation". Nie zmienia to faktu, że w wielu kontekstach można przetłumaczyć "umorzenie akcji" jako share redemption. Może się też jednak zdarzyć, że te termin "umorzenie akcji" zostanie użyty tylko na oznaczenie drugiego elementu (np. nabycie akcji w celu ich umorzenia) i wtedy właściwe będzie wyrażenie "share cancellation".

disagree  Adam Lankamer: to co piszesz dotyczy "redemption" ale w przypadku umarzania przez fundusz inwestycyjny udziałów, których uczestnik funduszu chce się pozbyć - to dwie różne rzeczy; cóż widzę, że na nic merytorycznego się nie zdobyłeś ... pro publico bono ;-

agree  maikaa: Zgadzam się z Panem. "Redemption" według słownika prawniczego to "reacquisition of a security (usually bond or stock) by the issuer", więc jeśli zachodzi potrzeba rozdzielenia na wykup i umorzenie, to redemption załatwia tylko wykup.

[re]purchase of own shares in order to retire them


Explanation:
When companies repurchase their own shares and retire them, the stock's outstanding shares are reduced, helping to raise the per-share enterprise value and improve its supply-demand balance. The retirement also leads to an increase in the stock's return on equity by shrinking its shareholders' equity. Repurchases and retirement of own shares have been commonly conducted by U.S. businesses as a way to pass on more of their profit to stockholders using surplus funds. But in Japan, companies were not allowed to buy back their own shares until a revision to the Commercial Code was made in 1994. This amendment enabled firms to repurchase their own shares only using profit that they can otherwise use to pay dividends. Businesses can now even hold onto shares they have repurchased as treasury stock under a 2001 revision to the code.
