surplus treaty [reinsurance agreement] Explanation: Ekscedent - nadwyýki sum ubezpieczenia ryzyka ponad udziaů wůasny (zachowek) zakůadu ubezpieczeń. http://www.bbpromotor.com.pl/slownik/e.html W ramach reasekuracji proporcjonalnej reasekurator przyjmuje w staůej proporcji odpowiedzialnoúă reasekurowanego ubezpieczyciela - cedenta, w zamian za otrzymane w takiej samej proporcji skůadki (pomniejszone o prowizjć) i půacone na jej poziomie szkody. Formami reasekuracji proporcjonalnej sŕ: ekscedent i kwota. There are two basic types of reinsurance and the contracts are written in two basic forms. In proportional reinsurance (quota share reinsurance; surplus treaty) the reinsurer pays a proportion of the total claim.(...) SURPLUS TREATY reinsurance. This is a proportional reinsurance working on the basis of lines. A line is the amount retained by an insurer (ceding office) for its net account and will vary according to the quality of the risk. A treaty is expressed in a multiple of lines to indicate the reinsurance capacity, eg a four line treaty based on a retention (line) of Ł50 000 will enable the ceding office to accept risks up to Ł250000 automatically. If the risk is Ł50 000 or less it is wholly retained by the ceding office, a risk of Ł100 000 will be shared equally between the office and the treaty reinsurers, whereas a risk of Ł250 000 is shared 20 per cent ceding office and 80 per cent reinsurers. For risks exceeding Ł250 000, the ceding office could seek facultative reinsurance for the excess, retain the unaccommodated balance, or negotiate a higher retention with the reinsurers. Alternatively second or third treaties may exist. The arrangement described above is a first surplus treaty. The second and third treaties pick up proportions of the risk after the first treaty has been filled." Hope that helps, Jacek Krankowski Dictionary of Insurance, C. Bennett |
