metal pin

Explanation:
My suggestion #2:

pin (pin) a slender, elongated piece of metal used for securing fixation of parts.

Example sentence(s):
  • I had a metal pin placed into my foot.

disagree  Michal Berski: zespolenie nie musi byc dokonane koniecznie gwoździem// może być jeszcze śruba, drut Kirchnera i pare innych wynalazków

  -> Which is why my other response also stands. Either a metal pin or a metal plate IMHO.

metal implant

Explanation:
metal (hip) implant

(The metal is needed when the patient has to have a hip replacement operation, due to some kind of degeneration.)

The traveller has to have a medical certificate as the security metal detectors go off right?

I also found the more technical: implanted joint prostheses
and: orthopaedic implants (see 2nd link)

In response to Michal's last comment. I do understand why I posted the link to the Brace, as it is also support. HOWEVER, I did clarify that the requester had stated it was IMPLANTED. I'm stepping back from this debate.
I believe it's either a pin or a plate. The pin (or plate for that matter) can be removed after a certain period, or left in. Both are generally made of metal and can (occasionally) set off security alarms at the airport, hence the Doctor's certificate.
Use of the words 'implanted prostheses' or 'orthopaedic implants' are also feasible.

Example sentence(s):
  • Reports on sensitivity of airport metal detectors to metal implants vary.
  • Patients frequently ask if their orthopaedic implants will raise the alarm when walking through airport metal detectors.

neutral  Polangmar: To chyba nie całkiem to samo: Implanty spiralne, metalowe zespolenia (śruby, płytki) http://je.pl/6kf3 ; Nie są przeciwwskazaniem implanty stawów i metalowe zespolenia kości http://je.pl/a9wy ; założone zespolenie metalowe. Po 3 tyg. musiano je wyciągnąć

  -> I think then we need more information from the person submitting the request, because a metal implant can also be temporary. And it seems that we're talking about a general 'implant' or insertion to stabilise a joint/bone.

  -> So what does it do? IT could be a brace, but she clarified it was 'implanted'. See braces: http://www.dinf.ne.jp/doc/english/global/david/dwe002/dwe002...
