English translation: the dissolution of the Jesuits/the Jesuit Order

Postanowiłem zapytać w tej kwestii znajomego native-speakera (Kanadyjczyk): "Dissolution implies that the society has been dissolved - never to be reformed - a nonentity; but suppression means (temporarily) condemned, converted, or jailed, the odd martyr, property seized, but restored and a 'sorry' given (no help to the odd martyr i suppose but usually a fine statute or painting is made of them immortalizing their agony). As the Jesuit order is around today, I'd use the word 'suppressed' "
Zatem zależy od punktu patrzenia: Sprawdziłem wpis w korpusie; odnosił się on czasów jeszcze przed ponownym rehabilitacją zakonu.
Wybór określenia zatem zależy od referencji czasowych.
No właśnie o to mi chodziło, że jeśli korpus jest starszy to tym samym słówko też jest starsze :)
Czyli wychodzi na to, że oba są poprawne, ale używane w innych typach dokumentów .

Nie sądzę żeby o to chodziło. To suppression wygląda na starsze określenie, pojawiające się m. in. w nazwach dokumentów, które zdecydowały o losach zakonu (see reference: Letter of Suppression, Brief of Suppression).
Swoją drogą to dziwne, że w korpusach suppression nie wyskakuje - a wyskakuje na stronie Jezuitów, w encyklopedii katolickiej, w publikowanych książkach i artykułach itp.:)
sprawdziłem wszystkie korpusy języka angielskiego, do których posiadam dostęp (zarówno BrEn jak i AmEn): jedynie "the dissolution of the Jesuits" wyskakuje.
Jak dla mnie, korpus jest cenniejszym źródłem w przypadku tekstów tego typu.
Pojęcia nie miałem, że liczba wyników na stronie wpływa na liczbę trafień (mam Googla ustawionego tylko na pierwszą 10-tkę) - ale skoro tak, to OK, dobrze wiedzieć:).
Jak masz ustawioną liczbę wyników wyszukiwania Gugla na jednej stronie? 20? U mnie np. dla Twojej pierwszej pozycji faktycznie daje wówczas 252 000 trafień.
Ja mam standardowo ustawione 100 trafień na stronę -- wtedy liczba trafień jest wiarygodniejsza.

Po przejrzeniu tych źródeł mam wrażenie (chociaż nie pewność), że "suppression" (kasata) jest częściej stosowane w nazwach "własnych" konkretnych wydarzeń (np. kasata zakonu jezuitów czy templariuszy).
Dissolution (kasacja) to mniej nazwa "własna" konkretnego wydarzenia a bardziej określenie tego rodzaju posunięcia władz duchownych.
Być może taka jest różnica między polskimi słowami "kasata" i "kasacja", jeśli jest jakakolwiek różnica.
