How about guarantees and other security (which would include everything except guarantees, i.e. mortgages, pledges, etc.). Garantia is a much less specific term than guarantee.

Although sometimes used interchangeably, guarantee(y) and suretyship are two different concepts and the former cannot be subsumed within the latter. The distinction between them is whether or not the undertaking is a joint undertaking with the principal or a separate and distinct contract. Exatamente, Mark. Para mim, não faz sentido. Entendo que uma fiança é um tipo de garantia. No desespero, acabei pensando em "Sureties and other guarantees". O que vc acha?

The phrase is strange because the suggestion is that a garantias are a member of a wider class termed fianças, which is just not the case. If anything, the reverse is true i.e. a fiança is a type of guarantee but a guarantee is not a type of fiança.
