I am translating a receipt of salary payment. This is an abbreviation having to do with holidays, I think. Many thanks for your help.

Explanation:
The Brazilian constitution determines that employees should be paid one third more for not working than they get paid for working (it reflects the dominant philosophy in Brasília).

This is known as the "adicional constitucional férias", as it is in the constitution.

O "Fer" a que se refere o texto NÃO significa "Feriado" (holiday), mas "Férias" (vacation).

É esse o adicional de 1/3 a que se refere a Constituição brasileira de 1988. De fato, seu artigo 7o, inciso XVII:

"Art. 7º São direitos dos trabalhadores urbanos e rurais, além de outros que visem à melhoria de sua condição social:
...
XVII - gozo de FÉRIAS anuais remuneradas com, pelo menos, UM TERÇO A MAIS DO QUE O SALÁRIO NORMAL." (destaque meu).

neutral  Martin Riordan: "vacation" is referred to as "holidays" (plural) in English (the real English, that is!) ;-) "Feriado" is called "a holiday" (singular), ex. Bank holiday Monday, in May I think... Christmas Day is a holiday, and it falls during school holidays.
