Muriel Vasconcellos: I've never heard of a "batch" of animals, except in very informal speech.

-> I have to admit the context is not enough, but apparently it refers to some productivity (yield) figure, not merely to animals. Otherwise the word "batelada" wouldn't fit even the Portuguese text. I was thinking more about slaughter or a rate of sorts...
