The Apple of Discord or the apple of discord
...is being used in English as is, referring to the apple given to the Trojan prince Paris by the three Olympian goddesses, Aphrodite, Hera and Athena, and the discord preceding and ensuing the following events. The three Olympian goddesses were arguing and couldn't agree among them who was the most beautiful and decided to ask Paris. He was given an apple (The Apple)and asked to give it to the most beautiful of the three. He chose Aphrodite over Hera and Athena. The latter two had hoped to bribe him with power and victory in battle, but Aphrodite offered the love of the most beautiful woman in the world.
This was Helen of Sparta, who became infamous as Helen of Troy when Paris subsequently eloped with her, and from this event and the (vain)discord between the three Olympian goddesses followed the war of the Greeks against the Trojans, as Menelaos wanted to save his face and regain Helen (or did they just want to smash rich Troja, who will ever know?)
a particular liking for the story of Troja
